Welcome to the Texas Medical Center’s Healthy Connections Action Plan project hub!

The Texas Medical Center (TMC) is the world’s largest and most comprehensive life science ecosystem. Every day, more than 100,000 people walk, bike, roll*, shuttle, drive, and take transit to and through the area. As TMC continues to grow, ensuring safe, comfortable, and convenient travel options for everyone is essential, while always ensuring that emergency vehicles can easily and quickly access the hospitals.

The Healthy Connections Action Plan (HCAP) is a year-long planning effort to create a community-supported vision for walking, biking, rolling*, transit, and driving throughout the TMC. The plan will identify where mobility improvements are most needed, recommend specific projects and programs, and provide an action-oriented roadmap for implementation.

This study will use the latest mobility data, on-the-ground fieldwork, and input from employees, institutions, key stakeholders, and mobility experts to identify solutions that improve safety, comfort, and access to major destinations such as hospitals, research facilities, parks, greenways, and transit hubs.

We are currently in the first phase of community outreach, gathering feedback to develop the Vision, Mission, and Goals for the Action Plan . There will be future opportunities to provide specific feedback on locations where improvement projects will be beneficial.

*"Roll/Rolling" is used as inclusive language to encompass various forms of non-motorized movement. "Roll" refers to people using wheelchairs, strollers, or other assistive mobility devices. This inclusion is particularly relevant to the TMC, where there may be a higher volume of people using these types of mobility devices.
